Overview Papers - Background

The overview papers and technical reports serve several central functions. First, as already discussed, they form the link between the COD scientific literature and COCE products and services. Through the overview papers and technical reports, the rationale for all COCE products and services can be traced back to the science base in COD.

Six priority content areas have been established to guide the development of the overview papers:

  • Definitions, Principles, and Epidemiology;
  • Screening, Assessment, Treatment Planning, and Treatment Services;
  • Workforce Issues;
  • Systems Issues;
  • Prevention and Early Intervention; and
  • Evaluation and Monitoring

These areas are also reflected in COCE Content Framework that was developed to guide its broader tasks of technical assistance and training. The overview papers are being developed in phases, with the first phase being targeted for completion by the end of January 2005.  The table below lists the 10 overview paper topics within the six primary content areas described above:
